IT Prepper Info
Imagine you are sitting in a room with three computers but no internet connctivity. You and your partner's TechStyle laptops both display grey blotches with spinning circles as they try to retrieve email and files from work. You share a desktop computer running TepidSW OS that is stuck in a loop, continuously trying to re-apply an OS upgrade. Every sixth time it prompts to restore the OS, but this too fails after an hour, the excited cooling fans hissing their stress and slowly calming down as the notification prompts for another reboot that starts the cycle again. Your partner can't call or email to try and fix the machine, as it has your address book and support information, even if you could connect to the internet. Your backups are all stored on Bigsite CloudGlobal, so driving to BulkBox or BoxBrick for a new computer won't help either.
A fix for connectivity is a long way off. You've been down for a month, when a routine power station upgrade caused a surge that blew out dozens of distribution transformers, including the one that feeds your ISP. The same procedure cut power to a nearby hospital and city hall, and they have priority before your ISP. Unfortunately, because of an unusually violent season of winter storms, the city utility has no spare distribution transformers. Other city utilities are in a similar situation across the country, and this has created a backlog of orders. The president is prioritizing the delivery of transformers to hospitals and local governments, but there is currently a shortage of raw materials due to massive expansion and built out of HeroIndustrialist Inc. and their new network of charging stations for a web of autonomous transport, guided by a new low orbit satellite network, SkyNet.
Your job as a MeatBotSwarm developer has ground to a halt. Because of agreements between BigTel and HeroIndustrialist Inc., you don't qualify to use SkyNet service without owning one of their cars. You can't use SuperSearch or HiveDev to work on your current sprint. You have code checked out from SuperSource, but dependencies on cloud-connected libraries and frameworks have made it impossible to run your code without connectivity, and without code samples on MillionMonkeys, you are stuck.
Are we down? Oh my yes. If only we had read this site before we were down. Alas.
